Evaluation

The Psychology Department at HMP Woodhill has undertaken an evaluation of the effectiveness of the FSSS programme and a report has been prepared by Rachel Lynds, Trainee Psychologist. The sample size was inevitably small and some of the results are inconclusive. There were, however, some very favourable comments about the effect FSSS has had on participants -

"Comparison between before and after the course demonstrated a significant change in PICTS scores, which provides evidence that Feeling Safe Standing Strong made a significant difference to criminal attitudes. This is an exceptionally positive finding considering the small sample size"

"Feeling Safe Standing Strong has achieved positive treatment change in terms of criminal thinking styles, with there being a reduction in these thinking styles"

"Overall, significant improvement was found for self esteem of group members, other treatment changes were inconclusive. Feedback on FSSS demonstrated that those that undertook it reported positive experiences and the responsivity principle was supported."
